The fight against global warming will shape the 21st century. Colleges and universities must exercise leadership in their communities and throughout society by modeling ways to eliminate global warming emissions, and by providing the knowledge and the educated graduates to achieve climate neutrality. Campuses that address the climate challenge will better serve their students and meet their social mandate to help create a thriving, ethical and civil society.

The American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment is a high-visibility effort to address global warming by garnering institutional commitments to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions, and to accelerate the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate.

With over 4,000 institutions of higher education shaping the minds of over 17 million students, the Commitment has the potential to create an impact that goes far beyond the campus. These institutions play a critical role in preparing the nation’s future leaders to move away from a carbon economy and toward a green economy. The Presidents’ Climate Commitment is an opportunity to develop the framework necessary to achieve climate neutrality.

The 2008 Climate Leadership Summit will feature inspiring speakers, provide action-oriented information to combat climate issues and unite forward-thinking leaders committed to transitioning from good intentions to strategic transformative action.

If you are a college or university president or chancellor, join us to learn how you can:

  • create a better campus by reducing the carbon footprint of existing buildings
  • address carbon offsets in climate action plans
  • incorporate sustainability into curriculum to educate teachers and students
  • work with your local community to accelerate action toward green house gas reduction

Through the Summit, ideas will be exchanged, new systems will be implemented and higher education will lead the way to climate neutrality.
