Crafting Your Climate Action Plan: Sharing Best Practices

Hosted by the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment in advance of the 2010 ACUPCC Climate Leadership Summit

In this workshop you will learn how two institutions have produced their climate action and sustainability plans and lessons gained from their experiences. We will also cover who needs to be involved, how to engage them, and the elements of a successful process. You will get a close-up look at two institutions’ plans and the process by which they were developed, and develop a framework and action steps for getting your own plan to completion.

Audience: This workshop is for people at institutions that have completed their greenhouse gas inventories and are preparing their climate action plans. This workshop is limited to 30 participants.

UNCF Building Green Training Series: Introduction to Greenhouse Gas Management and Climate Action Planning for Minority-Serving Institutions

Presented by Second Nature and Clean Air-Cool Planet

Colleges and universities across the country are managing their greenhouse gas emissions and developing comprehensive climate action plans in order to reduce their carbon emissions and environmental impact, decrease costs, advance research, and prepare students to create a safer, clean energy economy.

As part of the UNCF Building Green Training Series, Second Nature and Clean Air-Cool Planet present this workshop for minority serving institutions. This 2-day workshop will introduce participants to greenhouse gas management and climate action planning including how to measure GHG emissions, how to use the Clean Air-Cool Planet Campus Carbon Calculator™, and the process of developing a campus climate action plan.

Audience: Up to 30 participants, including students, staff and/or faculty from minority-serving institutions. Attendees need not have previous experience with greenhouse gas inventories, but should come prepared to focus specifically on how to measure and manage campus greenhouse gases, and learn how to develop a climate action plan.

Best Practices in Climate Action Plan Development: Highlights and Lessons from the ACUPCC CAP Review

The US Environmental Protection Agency, in partnership with Second Nature and ERG, sponsored an in-depth review of 50 Climate Action Plans submitted through the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. This webinar will address the key results and findings from the report including an analysis of common mitigation strategies, climate neutrality target dates, expected costs savings, and the type of climate action planning process used by various institutions. Panelists will discuss the benefits schools have gained from developing a climate action plan for their institution, in addition to advice and recommendations for schools who are just starting the climate action planning process. Panelists will include representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, Eastern Research Group, Grand Valley State University, and Cabrillo College.
