In June 2007, 70 signatories attended the first ACUPCC Leadership Summit, where conversations revolved around how to create continued success for the program, drive participation, and reach our goals.  Signatories recognized their effectiveness in recruiting colleagues, and Cape Cod Community College President Kathy Schatzberg noted that if each signatory recruited just two presidents the ACUPCC would quickly reach the goal of 1,000 institutions.  President Schatzberg was speaking from experience, having successfully recruited many presidents, and playing an instrumental role in having all of the community colleges in Massachusetts sign.  Since then, we have been referring to this as the “Kathy Schatzberg Challenge.”

The Kathy Schatzberg Challenge:
During the fall of 2007, each signatory was challenged to recruit two colleagues to sign the ACUPCC. Given the urgency of the global warming challenge, this is the kind of jump start needed, and the ACUPCC has continued to grow and be successful, in large part due to the efforts of signatory presidents and chancellors reaching out to their colleagues and encouraging them to join for their own benefit, and for that of nation and the world.  Signatories continue to keep up these efforts on an ongoing basis, and are encouraged to contact the supporting organizations for resources and assistance.
